I am Poornika Wijesundara, the founder and educational travel designer of VoyaKids, an independent associate of the TravelOnly consortium. The inspiration for VoyaKids was born at the intersection of the two roles closest to my heart: I am a full-time French Immersion educator and a mom. Every day in the classroom, I see children working hard to grasp vocabulary, grammar, and syntax. But as an educator, I know a profound truth: true fluency isn’t found in a textbook. It is felt. It is sparked the exact moment a child steps outside the comfort zone of school walls and realizes that the language they’ve been studying is a living, breathing key to a vast, magical world.
As a mom, I wanted more for my child—and for yours. I envisioned a travel experience where children aren't just passive passengers on a family vacation, but active, engaged explorers. I wanted to create a dedicated space where Canadian kids could take what they’ve learned at school and confidently apply it in the real world, experiencing the ultimate reward of genuine human connection.
